Upgrading from win 98 to Win XP PRO - Retain all the domain settings

Recently I did an upgrade from Win 98 to Win XP Pro on my office laptop, but to my disadvantage, the network settings is not retained.
Is there a way where when I do the upgrade to Win XP Pro while retaining the same network accessibility from win 98, so that I can still access (connect) to my office network - that is without the need of my administrator help to reconfigure my office laptop.
Please advice.
