WIn XP Pro: Backup too large for DVDs

L

Larry

Greetings,

I want to back up about 30Gb from my Windows XP Pro
system to DVDs using the built in Backup utility.
Unfortunately it doesn't appear to want to split the
backup across multiple disks. It dies with an error
message once the first one is full. Have I missed
something, or is it not possible to create a backup onto
multiple disks this way?

If it's not possible, is there an alternative way to
create a large backup (ie > 4.7 GB) and get it onto
disks/DVDs?

Thanks in advance.

NTBackup is a corporate product so doesn't do DVDs. It can do one disk cos
it treats it as a hard disk rather than backup device (which it will span on
tape).

Your burner probably came with an archive program of sopme type.

You can't do that with xp backup utility. You'll need to buy a third party
app like Drive Image.

The inbuilt backup does not handle CD/DVD devices - the only removable
ones it deals in are tape drives (and floppies). If you have a 'packet
writing' program installed it will write to a single CD/DVD - but as far
as it is concerned it is then writing to hard disk, and spanning is not
covered
