Scott

I have a brand new system build that locks up, on
installation with an OEM XP home cd w/ SP1a, with an
error message..." file Pci.sys caused an unexpected error
32768. However I can use an older XP OEM cd with SP1 and
the install works everytime. I have tried this on 3
Identical system builds and the cd with the older service
pack works fine, but the newer oem cd w/ Sp1a locks with
this error. I have even tried different copies of the XP
cd's with the same results. I would really appreciate any
help I could get with this. My system consist of.....
Motherboard----GigaByte GA-8IG100MK w/ Intel 865G chipset
Celeron 2.2G
256mb Infineon memory pc2100
Maxtor 40G 7200rpm HD
52x24x52 Liteon CDRW
Case w/ intel approved 350W power supply

Greetings --

Have you considered the possibility that the newer CD may be
defective?

I have used 3 different oem sp1 cd's with the same
result. I have also updated the bios and firmware on the
cd drives.

Hi Scott,
If you are using OEM installation CDs, there is a good
possibility that you are using a customized version of
pci.sys that was intended for a specific hardware
device. Since an OEM CD is intended only for the
specific machine/hardware with which it came, this could
be the cause of the issue.

I guess I should have explained a little better. I have
used 3 differet XP oem SP1a cd's. I have updated the bios
and the firware on the cdrw and still have the same
results.
