Win XP home and Win 98 networking

Hi everyone, I'm new to this networking stuff so please be gentle.

I set up a home network a few months a go betwenn my old Win 98Se machine
and my new Win XP Home machine. The network runs through a DLink router and
accesses a broadband connection. Over the weekend my oldest son
"accidentally" ran the Internet Connection Wizard on the Win 98 machine. Both
machines can still access the internet but I cannot see either machine form
the other machine. Also the connection to the 'net through the Win XP machine
is unbelievably slow.

Any advise? Should I just run the Internet connection wizard on both
machines again? Should I let my kid fix it himself to see what type of
problems he has created?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Gerry,

as to the pedagogical question, I think it's great that your kid
tries to master computers. Letting him fix it is not a bad idea,
but he may need some help.

His mistake may have been that he didn't choose the somewhat
strangely named "Residential Gateway" choice, which is another
name for a router.

If things go badly, you can fix them without using the wizard
just as well. Try http://www.michna.com/kb/wxnet.htm.
