Win XP Freezes at Log on Screen!

Ken

Hi,
My system freezes at the welcome screen when trying to
log on to any user.Win starts to load but freezes &
my "A" drive (3.5 disk drive) lite stays on.
It also will not start in safe mode.
BUT it will start in Debugging Mode.
I tried a Sys. Restore but it failed so I did a repair
install but still have the same prob.
I've noted that others are having similar problems at log
on, esp. after installing SP1 & it seems that is when I
started having my problems also. For ex. after I did a
repair install it was working OK but when I install SP1 I
immediately began having Problems logging on at welcome
screen. Maybe there was something already there just
waiting for SP1's install to cause the problem!
This seems to happen or I often have Windows problems
after installing & running Visual Studio or Visual
Basic .NET 2002??
I know thousand are using VS/VB.NET with XP with out a
problem but I'm thinking that as it configures it's self
into MY SYSTEM it causes a major conflict. It seems to me
that Microsoft would know that there will be some or many
systems with conflicts and provide solutions for them.
After all its there OS.
I Have all the latest Drives (sound, video etc..)&
Patches.

Ken,

Are you presumming or stating that this happened after installing SP1?
After all, it has been out for a great while. There could be many reasons
why this is happening to you, the first one that comes to mind is display
drivers. Updates from any fashion cause this behavior, if this is the case,
do a roll-back.
