win xp can't browse win 95 or vice versa

I can ping and telnet between the 2 machines, and the XP is even getting served internet from the 95 (My internet connection is still running on the 95, and I use spoon proxy server on it), ...but I can't get XP nor 95 to 'see' each other
The browsing is obviously an issue

I have disabled ICF on the XP, and have the proper entries in the LMHOSTS.txt file on both machines, yet they still can't browse each other

I had Netbeui on the 95, (didn't work), and then removed Netbeui (still doesn't work), but now 95 says "cannot browse the network

Anybody

To 'see' each other you must Share the appropriate drive/folder on each
machine.

Anybody ?

There should be no need for entries in the LMHOSTS files, which should
be named just LMHOSTS (with no file type), not LMHOSTS.txt.

Can each computer access itself and the other one by typing the
computer name in the Start | Run box in this format?

\\computer

If they can't, then make sure that:

1One, and only one, protocol is installed on each computer. TCP/IP is
all that's needed.

2. NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on both computers, as shown here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/troubleshoot/netbt.htm

3. You're logging into Windows 95, not canceling the login at startup
time.

If they can't, there might be a browse master problem on the network.
In that case:

1. Make sure that the Computer Browser service is running on XP.

2. Set Browse Master to Automatic on 95.
