Hi There

I have just upgraded from Win 98 to Win XP on my machine its an AMD
motherboard with 2800 chipset the problem I have is this, sometimes the
computer will reset it self and when I log in it is saying that new hardware
has been found which the Universal Serial Bus controllers my question is
this if I need to do a clean install of Win XP isit safe to format the c:
drive without affecting the BIOS or can I just delete the Universal Serial
Bus controllers from the device manager and restart windows XP and then
reinstall the Universal Serial Bus controllers

1) Your lack of punctuation makes it more difficult to
understand your situation.
2) Formatting your hard drive does not affect the system
BIOS. Be sure to save your critical data first if you
decide to re-format.
3) If you remove the USB components via Device Manager,
Windows will re-install them automatically.
4) If you are using an external USB HUB, remove it before
installing Windows and then install it after Windows is
running properly. By the way, XP is sensitive to some
external USB HUBs, check the manufacturer's web site to
see if newer drivers are available if you're using one.
5) The FIRST thing I would do if I were you is to look in
the Event Viewer and try to nail down the reason why the
system is re-starting. (Control Panel | Administrative
Tools | Event Viewer). Check it out and if you see
something that you don't understand, chances are someone
here will.

Many people think that when they have a problem, re-
installing Windows is the best and easiest solution.
Sometimes it works, but not usually. Find the source of
the problem. Imagine that you DO re-install Windows and
then the exact same problem occurs again....

Good Luck !
