When opening Win mail, it does not auto send/receive, preferences is set to
auto on startup. When Vista is restarted, the Win mail will auto
send/receive the first time that it is opened and then subsequent times it
will not auto send/receive.

That type of error can be caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?

Trend Micro.., with the spam blocker off. I have used Trend Micro since I
installed Vista and did not have a problem. This error started after I
installed a blue tooth wireless keyboard by Logitech.

A recent version of the Trend antivirus program causes assorted
problems in Windows Mail. Most problems in Windows Mail
caused by antivirus programs do not show up immediately,
though. For the recent version of the Trend antivirus program,
just disabling part or all of the program seldom helps; you usually
have to uninstall it instead. You may then need to remove your
email account under Windows Mail, then restart Windows Mail
and add the account again.

Click on Internet, then Outlook Express to get to instructions that
were writtem for Outlook Express , but should also work under
Windows Mail.

If you have trouble reading .pdf files, see if you need to install
Adobe Reader:

Don't install the Free Google Toolbar program unless you want
more problems in Windows Mail. Web sites that let you do a
Google search are not a problem.

If this solves your problem, you may want a replacement antivirus
program that doesn't cause problems. Antivirus programs from
Norton, McAfee, and Trend are a bad choice, since they are the
three antivirus programs most likely to cause problems in
Windows Mail. I recommend either avast! or AVG, either one
with a custom install where you tell it to leave out the parts that
scan email.

Although you should not have more than one antivirus program
installed, you can have more than one antispyware program
installed without problems. I use three such programs:
