Just started using WIN Mail. Previously uded Outlook Express and was happy
with it. Two issues I have found and have not found any solutions for are:

(1)When I receive Links in an e-mail and I try to Forward these the Links
become inactive in the Forward.

(2)I don't want full e-mail addresses in my Sent nor Forwarded e-mails, just
the names.

These issues did not exist in my Outlook Express. Can these be fixed or is
there a solution?

1. The links are inactive only while the message is being composed.
They will be active when sent.

2. In order for a message to be delivered, it needs to include the full
email address of the recipient. Some programs (like OE) temporarily
hide the email address while the message is being composed.
Windows Mail does not hide the email address, which gives you an
opportunity to verify you have selected the correct address, since many
contacts have multiple addresses. If you don't like that feature,
upgrade to Windows Live Mail:

Hi Gary,

I just got Windows Mail and according to your recommendations I should get
Win Live. Isn't it a bit ridiculous having to change to another program when
I haven't even been able to use this one without problems. I'm having the
same problems with outgoing e-mails, error messages. And I have set up my
account properly. I spoke with my ISP and he said they even have to provide
MS users with a different Port number due to problems. When is MS going to
fix their own bugs?

Windows Live Mail is the replacement for Windows Mail, which seems to have
been a stop gap program until WLM was developed. So it makes sense to
switch to the newer program with more features and is being updated
periodically.

The port problem has nothing to do with MSFT or their email programs. Many
ISP's are blocking use of port 25 by users on other networks. The problem
would exist with any operating system, and in any email program.
Generally, you have to use the email server of the network to which your
computer is connected. Or use an email account (like Gmail) which offers a
SMTP server port other than the normal port 25.

Microsoft doesn't like to fix bugs. It has a reputation (with OE
particularly) for not doing so. Instead, they write new programs that have
the same bugs and then they add new ones. They did that going from OE to
WinMail and now they perpetuate those bugs in Walmail. This is the
tradition and reputation that Microsoft has made for itself over the years
and they are bound and determined to maintain it. Its about $ not user
experience.

Windows Mail works fine for most people. It has a few peculiarities
and bugs, but so do other email programs.

If you need help with a specific error message, right-click on your
error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.
