win 98 software issues in xp

I have now installed on my new 40GB drive, windows 98, then windows xp upgrade.
Then I find that my IOMEGA zip drive disk that has backup files of my
Quicken 2000 files is not readable since the Iomega software is not compatible.
I need to use Win 98 and the Win 98 backup utility from Iomega to get these files back.

So I want to do this: Redo the install but this time make a small
partition for win 98, say 4 GB and use the remaining 36 GB for WIN XP.
I want to use NTFS for WINXP if possible. What are the features of XP that
are lost if I use FAT32 file system? Can I transfer files from one partition to the
other?

Make you 98 partition fat 32 and the XP partition NTFS. XP will be able to
access the fat32 partition, but 98 won't see XP.

Why do you want to install Windows 98? Just boot with the XP CD, partition
and format the HD, install XP, and then install any needed drivers (XP
compatible drivers, not Win98-compatible drivers). Make sure your Zip drive
is NOT physically connected to the machine when you start the install, or it
will mess up your drive designations.

If you are using the Upgrade version of XP, at one point in the XP
installation, it will tell you it can't find a previous version of Windows
on the HD. At that point, take out your XP CD and insert a Windows 98 CD,
then point it to the Windows 98 files (usually "x:\win98"). The XP install
will examine the disk to make sure it is an eligible disk, then ask for the
XP install CD. Put it back in, and the XP install will continue.
