Win 2k Hangs on Startup

My windows box hangs indefinitely on startup. I've left
it there for a few days but the blue progress line won't
get past the 3/4 point on boot.

I've tried putting in the win2k installer and tried
emergency repair. But that yields the same results. I can
get a dos prompt but I don't know what to look for or
what to fix.

Can someone give any pointers?

1. Since when did this start?
2. What did you change PRIOR to the problem?
3. Did U try booting up in the SAFE mode? Press F8 when prompted...& choose
SAFE Mode
4. Did you try the Last Known Good Configuration? Press F8 when prompted...&
choose LKG Config
5. Did you add any SOFTWARE? If you did & can boot up in Safe Mode,
UNINSTALL that piece of SW
6. Did you add any Hardware? Remove the hardware & try booting up with the
system PRIOR to your adding the HW...
