Hi!

I just got new computer which is AMD 2400. I have problems with drivers for
ATI manli radeon 9100 card.

I tried following scenarios:
- I installed server + all updates including sp4. After that I installed
bundled drivers for ATI card. Instalation went fine and rebooted. After I
logged in nothing happened.
- I installed server + all device drivers. After that I installed sp4. The
result was the same.
- Tried the same with sp3 and different versions of ATI drivers (the ones
that came bundled, from ATI site (catalyst) and from MANLI site)

I tried with different settings in hardware accelerations and set server
priority to applications.

ATI drivers without sp3 or sp4 work great.

Any ideas??? Please!

I didn't ask them jet.
But I have some new knowlege on this problem.

After the login screen, the computer doesn't realy freeze it just works with
a speed of Spectrum or Commodor. If I wait a while (let's say 10-15 min) I
login successfuly.
First I thought that something occuppies proccessor but that isn't the case.
It's working at 0% and everything else works at the same speed.

I also found out that as soon as Hardwer Acceleration is set to the third
level, the computer stops responding (at that level it loads ati drivers).

Thnx,

Tomi

Perhaps there is some ATI accessory program to blame( ATI-hotkey
polling) or some other unecessary "feature" that you can remove to get
going again?

Nope, that's not the case, I tried just with drivers.
I'm more and more certain the problem is in BIOS.

I made an image of working installation of win2000server+ati drivers,
without sp.
After few restores everything worked as it should. Then I started to play
with BIOS. I tried different settings in AGP section, specially AGP driving
value. It didn't help. After that I restored BIOS to the fail-save defaults
and restored image of installation. Now the problem occurrs also with this
working installation.

So I think the problem is in communication between OS, BIOS and VGA drivers.
And even more precise, SP3 and SP4 uses different methods to access VGA.

That's all for now :(. Now I'm gonna play with BIOS.

I learned recently that this is a well-known issue with
Win2K (alt.os.windows2000) the solution that worked for me
was removing security update # Q329170. Now even my ATI TV
Wonder is working with Radeon 8500 like it should and no
more 30-minute shutdown time.

In last 3 days I reinstalled w2k server completly at least 20 times, tried
all possible combinations of drivers, updates in different orders. With no
success at all. As soon sp3 or sp4 and ATI drivers are together, the system
freezes.
