Win 2000 CPU Usage at 100%

I have a problem with Windows 2000 on me laptop ( Win 2000 SP 4 ) I
was using it was fine, then i rebooted now it takes about 15-20 mins
to log in and bring my desktop up and then about another 5 mins to
start an application off. CPU usage is showing at 100% on task
manager, previous to this i have up to date anti-virus software
installed, now when i boot up it says it cant start it up in the
startup, i did eventually manage after about 20 mins to get in the
registery and look at the RUN section and nothing had been added that
was spyware that i could see. It going to take me over a hour or more
to get Adaware Installed then i dont know how long to run it ! Any
ideas on why its done this, i am guessing some spyware or something,
just days before i removed pup.exe is it ? Even in safe mode it does
this slow operation.

The rerson i rebooted was i couldnt access any icons on my desktop
they wouldnt click ( but other stuff was fine ).

Any Ideas ?

Duncan
