Just upgraded Win 98 to Win 2000 and lost all mail
messages from outlook express in process.
Is this normal? Can they be recovered

DJ,

I'm not sure exactly what process you used for the upgrade; it's likely that
in Windows 2000 you've created a new user profile that isn't referencing the
profile where your old mail folders sit. At this point you need to try to
locate your Outlook Express Mail Folders. Once found, the following KB
article should help you in restoring your mail.

Dan,
I have found the previous inbox in c:\\Windows\Application
data\Identities\{long string of numbers}\Microsoft\Outlook
Express.

I tried to follow the KB advice to move this back into the
current Outlook Express inbox. When I
checked "properties" for the current inbox, It said its
location was C:\Documents and Settings\Don Johnson\Local
Settings\Application Data\Identities\{97E06EE6-A0E0-47DA-
9C8F-09FC3BC6B04E}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Inbox.dbx

However, there is no C:\\Documents ........ on my
machine, according to the seach function and the windows
explorer. There isn't even the first level "c:\\Documents
and Settings\".
I tried to do an import from the old folder from Outlook
Express, but got an error message "No messages found in
this folder or another application is running that has the
folder open"

What else can I do? It's important that I reclaim those
mail messages.
