You'll find support for Windows Live Mail (WLMail) in this public newsgroup:

Exchange 2007 can function as an IMAP server.
WLM can function as an IMAP client.

You can therefore send and receive email via a properly configured Exchange
2007 server. However, WLM is not a "true" Exchange server client.

Can Windows Live Mail run on XP Pro?

Yes, pretty sure I tested it in that configuration during the beta.
