Will not let me send

Opened up MS Mail under Vista Basic, set up my account on a pop3 server
(roadrunner), can receive mail just fine but cannot send. Gives me the
following error

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'test', Account: 'mail.cfl.rr.com', Server:
'mail.cfl.rr.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Are you connected to Roadrunner network (at home, not away from home on a
laptop) when you try to send mail?

You might try
smtp-server.cfl.rr.com
for the outgoing server name.

Also, disable email scanning in your anti-virus program.

Which antivirus software are you using?

I assume you meant Windows Mail rather than "MS Mail".
Did this error happen while at home, or away from home, such as
at an Internet café?
Which antivirus program are you running? McAfee and Norton antivirus
are incompatible with Windows Mail and will need to be uninstalled.

I have had the same problem and the same Error Number. To solve it I had to
call my ISP (Internet Service Provider) to get information about the set up
for sending mail. Port 25 is normally only allowed when you use the the same
ISP as the one who gave you the e-mail address. In my case I had to change
port to 587 and use an other server for outgoing mail as normally used for
my account at Telia (mailout.telia.com) or for Home (smpt.home.se). As I am
connected to Internet by Tele2 I have to use their outgoing server
(mail.tele2.se) and their log in and password for the outgoing mail. I use
Windows Mail and Windows Vista Home Basic, but the error has probably
nothing to do with
your operating system.
