will a reinstall of windows XP detect a change of status in APIC

I currently have XP pro running with the APIC disabled in the bios. Enabling
it in the bios makes no difference. If I enable it in the bios, and then do
a repair from the original CD, will the enabled APIC be detected, and
appropriate drivers installed?
