Server is IIS 4.0 Server Extensions are 98
Using FrontPage 2003 timeouts are rife.
File Import - The timeout is almost Instantaneous.
Full Publish - Gathers file information then...timeout
Drag and drop. (Or the small blue arrrow in the middle) Works sometimes -
only if the folder you copy across does not contain a sub folder with its
contents.
Drag and drop a document (pdf) Instantaneous timeout. My finger has barley
lifted of the mouse!
With Frontpage 98 Import/Publish - No problem -
Yes I know IIS 4.0 is old. Upgrade extensions Yes I know, would that make a
difference - I don't think its the extensions. I believe its the way the two
different versions talk to a server. Can anyone confirm this?
WHY is FP98 NOT timing out when FP2003 does????

My guess is FP 2003 does have problems communicating with the FP 98 server
extensions. There is a lot of difference in technology between the FP 98
extensions and later versions.

Is there a particular reason you won't upgrade to at least the FP 2000
extensions?

Partial clip from an earlier post on a (similar) issue:

Windows servers with any version of extensions (FP2000 or later) will
support any version of FrontPage - with only partial support if the
FrontPage version is later than the extensions version.

Sounds like the 98 FPSE are too old for FP2003.

I am well aware of the newer versions of the extensions that support of
course the newer functions of Frontpage respectively. But all we are talking
about is simply the publish function. I have found no mention in
documentation of any change in updated extensions, or any warnings of, when
using a newer version of FP on older extensions.
I mean its just.... FP2003
File Import (one measily pdf file) "The Server Connection Timed Out"
on FP98
File import (6 pdf files) imports them without even a cough.
Is there a way I wonder to measure the sever connection timeout settings?
from the client side?
To answer Tom [Pepper] Willet: Bureaucracy prevents the server from being
upgraded.
