Why would moviemaker not recognise a JVC Camcord?

Why would moviemaker not recognise a JVC Camcord through the USB. It comes up
with strange error messages about 'to many items firing' I have to use the
lousy Pixela app that comes with the Camcord to save a movie file to the HDD.
They are saved automatically as Mpeg ( I dont think this basic app can
change file types?)
When I go to import these files into Moviemaker it says things like 'no
data' though the files play fine in 'Win MediaPlayer'?
Does anybody know where to start on this one?

That message is the message you get when trying to import MPEG2 files into
Movie Maker.
WMM doesn't like MPEG1 files very much and doesn't like MPEG2 files not at
all.
Also do you have the capability of connecting with firewire instead of USB?
