Why won't my computers network?

OK i have networked my desktop running xp Pro, and my laptop using xp home.
they are connected to a linksys befw 11s4 wireless router. right now both
are hardwired ot the router. i ran the network etup wizardon both computers,
both are set to th same workgroup. i can ping each other's ip addresses in
run/cmd, but when i go into veiw workgroup computers on the desktop, the
laptop doesnt show up at all, and when i go inot it on the laptop, i get an
error message "Room (workgroup name) is not accessible you might not have
permission to use this network resource contactte administrator to find out
if you have access, list of the servers for this workgroup is unaccesible.
no network shows up when i try and browse for network printers eiter. so
what do i do to fix it?

I have nearly the same problem... I have noticed that the "workgroup" name
reverts back to "MSHOME". It does not keep my change to a unique workgroup
name. I also have the Linksys befw11s4 wireless router (direct connetions as
below). Both computers are able to access the internet but I wank to network
them together and share one printer.

Has anyone experianced this problem and solved it? both computers have kept
the workgroup settings , i just seem unable to see either in the view
workgroup menu, or connect to either. I can ping each of them, just can't
connect to them?

Been there, done that (several times!). What it takes is reading the
links people give you and attention to detail. There are no shortcuts to
get File and Printer Sharing working.

If you mean that the Network set-up wizard shows 'MSHOME' every time you
run it, that is a 'feature'. It doesn't mean that your custom name has
been changed previously.
