When I click on the start box, click on My Documents, My Pictures, My Music,
or My Computer. Nothing happens except, all of the Icons on the computer
screen disappear for about 10 seconds then return. Why, why, why. Thanks Dan.

Why, why,why.

Operating system (Home, Professional, etc. Service Pack 1a, 2, 3)??
Find out: Start button --> RUN --> type in: winver --> Click OK.

What changed between when it worked and now that it doesn't and how long ago
was it working fine?

Have you tried a system restore?

What antivirus application do you use and is it updated?

Have you scanned for spyware/adware/malware?
I suggest full scans with MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware.

perhaps, it is due
to low, low, low
memory or virtual
memory.

but you might first
try, try, try to see if
the issue also exists,
exists, exists in
safe mode.

if not, then the solution
should be easy, easy,
easy.

Operating system. Home edition. Service pack 3.

What changed between when it worked and now that it doesn't and how long ago
was it working fine? Since it was new.
Have you tried a system restore? No, how is this done?
What antivirus application do you use and is it updated? Avast, Spysweeper,
MalwareBytes, all current.
Thank you for taking the time to reply. Dan

"Since it was new."

In that case, you have a warranty claim. Exchange the computer for one
that works.

there are distinct differences
between normal mode and
safe mode.

for example, third party
services and third party
software are not permitted
to run in safe mode.

therefore, the first step
is to click on start>run>
msconfig

then under the startup
tab disable all the entries
that are enabled.

you should also jot down
which ones were they.

next under the services
tab, "hide" all microsoft
services.

what remains should be
disabled and jotted down
as well.

then reboot and see if
the issue is resolved.

if so, then you eliminated
the problem.

you can refer to what you
jotted down to figure out
which item(s) were
destabilizing your system.
