Short System freeze

I've got XP Home edition, SP2, all updates available have been
downloaded.

When I double click on the control panel and then close the
application, the system freezes for about 2-3 seconds, all desktop
icons disappear, then they reappear, and most of the notification
icons disappear, too (some reappear, some don't).

This only happens on control panel, my computer and the recycle bin
(not IE or anything else).

Only a small problem, I know, but has anyone any ideas?

It could be the Speed of your PC mine is pretty quick, yet it does the same
thing only quicker. the icons dissapear for about half a second then they're
back. maybe a glitch in the OS also.
