Why so much memory?

I am trying to get Outlook to open faster. I notice that when I load Outlook
2003 and watch the memory used by it in Task Manager, the program runs itself
all the way into 130MB of memory before it gives control to the user. This is
also taking about 3 minutes to complete.

I do have the program set to automatically download mail from 3 mailboxes on
different servers. Is that the problem?

Even so, why does the program take up so much in system resources?

Memory usage of Outlook depends on how much memory is available on the
system and how many and which add-ins you are using.
