Why not offer a Window Defender Basic and Professional?

I agree with all of the comments in other threads (e.g. Subject: Windows
defender beta 2 dumbed down version of antispyware 2/14/2006 4:15 PM PST By:
JRosenfeld) related to disappointment in the removal of functionality,
previously available (e.g. "Tracks Eraser") in Microsoft AntiSpyware (Beta
1), in the recently introduced Windows Defender (Beta 2).

If the goal was to provide a simplified instance, why not offer a Window
Defender Basic that is modeled from the current version of Windows Defender
(Beta 2) but still offer the previous control and features of Microsoft
AntiSpyware (Beta 1) in a Professional variant?

I was very pleased with the power and flexibility offered in the previous
beta. Please bring it back in some form.

Thank you

I agree with David. I'm disappointed that Microsoft is taking the strategy
of supporting a much less sophisticated product.

As I mentioned, it would be really helpful if Microsoft provided a version
of the tool or another technology that contains all the previous flexibility
and power in a "dashboard" for the development and technical communities.

In this particular category of technology, I feel much more confident about
Microsoft developed tools vs. 3rd party vendors.

Thank you

Nice answer. "We took a great tool, bought it (per standard MS SOP), and
crippled it hoping to make people more reliant on MS products. And why not?
Most people are too stupid to figure it out anyways. Microsoft isn't
interested in techies, after all."

Windows Defender's real time protection and cleaning capabilities are
significantly improved over Microsoft Antispyware.
The UI is simpler, but those advanced tools still present are also
significantly improved. I can see from your sig that it may cut little ice
that improvements in IE7 make up for several of the missing advanced tools,
but that's the way it is.
