Why no Spybot S&D updates?

F

Francis Marsden

It has been a long time since the last update for Spybot Search and Destroy.
(Win98) Is the program still a going concern? TIA

Still good as far as I know......

AdAware has had at least 6 updates in the last 4 days. And SpywareBlaster
has a couple.

I ran Spybot today and used it to find registry entries that were out of
whack......but didn't delete many. Still cautious with the Registry.

Cheers......Heather

So is AdAware 6........and they have had multiple updates in the last 4
days......are they catching up to Spybot?? (BG)

Spybot is not for the faint of heart......because it also identifies
registry keys that are useless or 'wrong path'. I have a brother-in-law who
would crash his machine using that. AdAware is far better for the
*computer-challenged*.

Taste is indisputable,.. but personally I always had a tiny bit more
confidance in AdAware.... it detects more... but not all... so does
Spybot... both combined always did a great job. These days, I also ad
a few other freeware scanners like A2 scanner & more immunizers like
Spyware Blaster. I'm also testing Bazooka that does not remove but
gives lotsa info and how to's,... more info:

I had RegSupreme on here for 30 days, but was a bit ticked off at the author
for causing his free versions to stop working at year end with no warning,
so have an older one of his on here.....as well as a couple of others. But
I will admit that I like RegSupreme the best......I am just stubborn and
principled, grin.

To my knowledge (and checking a couple of hours ago) there were no Spybot
updates today or last week even......you must be thinking of AdAware.

Heather,
According to Patrick a new update was issued 12/4/04, but my comp. won't see
it or pick it up.
I believe he also has a newer version in beta at the moment.

I checked again last night and nothing. I wonder if this new update is a
beta one......or for advanced users. I will look into it via Siljaline's
website.

I am still using WinME (XP is sitting beside me still in the box!!). But I
am cautious with any Registry Cleaner, simply because I am not all that
familiar with the registry. But I am learning.

no, I was not thinking of adaware, if I was I would not have posted a reply
to a thread relating to spybot would I now?

Don't make assumptions!

I switched on a machine, searched for and downloaded updates, simple as
that. True, they might not have been recent as the machine hasn't been used
for a while but...updates I got

And don't get snippy with me, you twit!! Your last paragraph tells it all,
doesn't it.

I REPEAT.....there have been no Spybot updates for a month or so......

Now run off and do your homework or something.

(Win98) Is the program still a going concern?

The Spybot author Patrick Kolla was on German TV some days ago. He made no
mention of closing down his project, but gave the impression of being
overworked.

Let's see what happens in the next weeks.

Twit? what sort of person uses the word 'twit' in this day and age. You made
an assumption which was wrong, simple. In your eagerness to convince
everyone that you are a fount of wisdom you made an error, live with it.
Learn not to post when you have nothing to add.

You are unnecessarily rude, now be quiet, some of us have work to do!

I used Regsupreme on my WInME and WinXP PC,.. no problem... Runs fine.
If you have enough ram (1/2 gig, not 1/4) .. perhaps consider to
install Win XP... lotsa better than ME... exept if you're fond of that
nice blue mirror in front of you... crash.. right now ;-)
If you have below 1/2 gig ram.. stick to ME.. your PC will run
smoother.. as long as it does not crash...

You are amusing!! Who said they had not updated their Spybot for a long
time? YOU did....so go to your room and play with your toys.

Stop fighting Spybot v. 1.3 rc3 just came out today. And with new
features which certainly have used developers time.
