Are these programs still free

I d/l malware bytes and spybot search and destroy. It gave the
impression they were free.

But MalwareBytes found a few items and then wanted money to clean
them. Same thing with Spybot S&D.

I ended up d/l Ad-Aware and that worked fine.

But, am I doing something wrong. Are these programs no longer free?

There are free versions.

They are, though Malwarebytes Antimalware also has a paid version.

You need to say where you got them. For example, if you google for the
two words: malware bytes the first site presented is a known rogue
site, malwaree.org which presents a program that does exactly what you
describe .. then goes on to infest your computer with other/more crap.

Since you spelled it with the two words, I'd guess you shot yourself in
the foot.

The correct site is http://malwarebytes.org

You should make sure you are running the correct one. Also, get and run
SUPERAntiSpyware from http://superantispyware.com/

I've read where Ad-Aware has reached the end of its useful life.

Hello Mel:

Please set aside any possible embarrassment this may cause you and let
us know where you downloaded from.

You will be able to do much good for many by letting others know /not/
to download from that source.

MBAM, from Malwarebytes, has been and is still free to use. Only if you
choose to upgrade, do you unlock the realtime protection and the
scheduled scanning and updates. These malware newsgroups recommend the
free version of MBAM to many who come this way. If you have an MBAM
solvable problem, the legitimate & free version will remove the malware
threat pronto.

The Malwarebytes site download URL is still:

<http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php>

Regards,

Pete

That is completely untrue. Ad-Aware Free Anniversary Edition v8.04 is

I didn't say it wasn't being updated. I said "useful life." There is a
difference.

The SE version is, apparently gone.

From usenet posts of those who tried it:
Whatever replaced it (ver. "AE"?) is a huge bloat, not worth
of having.

How come SAS doesn't show up in add/remove programs?

Hello Ron:

Please don't steal the threads of others. Start your own thread so that
others/many may benefit more completely.

SAS /does/ show in the add/remove list on XP Pro SP3 32bit x86 installs.

SAS did not include a task specific uninstaller with their installation
file. Perhaps you have a problem in your unspecified OS.

SAS has a forum at <http://forums.superantispyware.com/> that may be
able to help you further.
