Why Does XP Pro Boot Slower With Network Cable Connected?

My system boots very fast with the network cable (DSL) physically
disconnected - MUCH faster than it does with the cable connected.

Does anyone out there know why that happens, and what I can do to change it?
I'd like my system to bootup just as fast with the cable connected (I'm
getting tired of crawling behind the system to disconnect and reconnect the
cable).

My startup list is already barebones. Please help...

I will allways do that it is looking for a server when the network is
connected you could try the following , Install a firewall that allows you to
block the internet till you open a internet connection ( It is recommended
that you have a firewall (Not the XP Firewall since it is lame) when you have
a full time internet connection i use a hardware and software routers. , turn
off the dsl router untill you need it

the first tweak on this page, w/ line number 8), removes two namespaces
from explorer, which is most likely your issue. save the reg entries
first as a backup, then del those two namespace entries. It does indeed
speed up explorer browsing of network assets, which I suspect MAY be done
automatically at system startup time.

give it a try, it couldn't hurt!

Also, it could be DHCP lookup, are you using DHCP or static ip addressing?

FWIW, I would certainly expect it to take longer if the net is connected,
as it has more to do; but it shouldn't be more than a few seconds slower.

You're not connecting directly to a modem are you? You SHOULD HAVE a home
gateway device between your PC and the broadband modem.
