Why does Excel "lose" commas from a formula on one computer

On one PC only, Excel loses all commas from formaulae. As long as no
alteration is made to the formula (either created on another machine or
previously on this one (HPXZ4100)) it works. As soon as any change is made it
will not even accept the change - even though it is validated in "function
arguments" box. I have tried changing the keyboard, repairing Office, then
removing Office and reloading with all updates - after all the normal power
up/down etc. Please help!

Hi Anne

A very simple example is - =IF(a1+1=2,"Y","N") normally displays exactly
like this, but on this machine it displays as - =IF(a1+1=2 "Y" "N") although
it still works. If I try and change anything in the formula, even if I
immediately change it back to what it displayed as, it does not work ie. I
have to press escape to get away from the error message and apparent error to
be able to do anything else, even close the workbook. It appears that this
problem exists with any formula with a comma in it. If I enter the formula
=SUM(A1:A10) it works and I can modify it with no problem

Bizarre, to say the least. Probably a known issue of which I'm not aware, but
check the regional settings on the PC, Mike. Also check to be sure that it's
saving the file as xls by default. (Tools-->Options-->Transition tab) I did
not test any of these things myself.

Hi Anne

I have checked as you suggested - no problem. I have had an ongoing low
level problem with this machine giving "svchost.exe-Application Error".
During this Excel difficulty, the "svchost" problem became chronic. I finally
got a fix for this problem - thread Leif1545, which appears to have finally
cured it (only time will tell). I was wondering if the the Excel problem was
poosibly caused by the "svchost" problem

Thanks for your help

Cheers

Solved problem by wiping the disc and reloading Windows and all other
software. Company IT department seem to think that the problem was caused by
my new monitor - perhaps they should have tried jumping over a dead cat
backwards three times at midnight!
