Why does email "permanently" deleted keep reappearing in Inbox?

What type of email account do you have? Are you leaving it on the server?

Thanks so much for the response.

I'm not sure what you're asking about what kind of email account I have, but
I'll tell you what I know.

I have 2 accts. Both are POP3s. One is my personal acct., on a server run by
Charter Commun. which I access through a cable modem at home. The other is
for work and is provided through a local company on servers in their office.
It's accessed through a fractional T1 at work.

As far as I know (I'm at work now and I only use Outlook on the computer at
home), I may have set the work acct. to leave the message on the server.

At work I use Outlook Express and I do have my home acct. set up to leave
the message on the server, and at home Outlook Express (which I used to use
at home) is set up to leave the work acct. on the server.

I have used OE for many years and work with it well, but I have stayed away
from Outlook until just recently. Apparently, when OE removes the message
from a server, it removes it for good it no matter how you retrieve it.

With Outlook, apparently, if I leave the message on the work acct. server
when I'm at home, it will always retrieve it at home, even if I get it at
work with OE and have OE set to delete it after I retrieve it.
=============================
This sure was a long explanation. I was hoping this was a common phenomenon
that newbies to Outlook often experience, and that there is an easy answer
to. Guess not.

If you are leaving mail on the server, you'll download it again with any
other mail client in any other location because the 'already downloaded'
flag is stored in each mail client or profile, not on the server.
With Outlook, apparently, if I leave the message on the work acct. server
when I'm at home, it will always retrieve it at home, even if I get it at
work with OE and have OE set to delete it after I retrieve it.

If OE is set to delete, it's not getting deleted, otherwise outlook would
not download it later. Can you log into the account using a web interface to
see if it's really deleted from the server?
