why do I get the message "e:\backup.pst could not be found"?

I created a backup on DVD by using "export to a file".

Now, whenever outlook starts, it says "e:\backup.pst could not be found" -
which is hardly surprising, because the backup DVD is in the cupboard!

But why is Outlook looking for it? And how can I stop it telling me
something I already know!!

You should never create a backup by exporting, especially if you are backing
up onto storage medium.
You have corrupted your profile.
Create a new one from scratch with a new name.

Thanks Russ

If I want to back up to a DVD in future how should I do it?

How do I create a new profile (do you mean user account)? Can I not repair
my existing one?

Close Outlook.
Copy your Outlook data file to a DVD.
When you export, Outlook fails to terminate its connection to the file you
export and keeps looking for that file once you've moved it. Exporting also
loses a good deal of information.
You can either live with the prompt or create a new profile. Profiles cannot
be repaired, but it is simple to create a new one.

Thanks for your latest reply. It was most helpful. But I can't reply to it
directly because when I double click on its header I get taken to the top of
the message sequence and there is no scroll-down bar. Your latest message,
with its reply buttton, is off the bottom somewhere. What am I doing wrong??
