How do I open backup.pst file from the desktop(copied from a CD)

I have copied a backup.pst file from a CD onto my desktop and not able to
topen it. An error message which reads like "outlook backup.pst file is not a
personal folder file. Check file name or file is corrupted" comes up.I copied
the original backup folder from another Cd onto anothe computer and then
burnt it onto another CD again. Now im trying to open by copying this file on
the desktop from the 2nd CD. Please help me . I need to open the file and my
life depends on it.

Are they both the same versions of outlook? <not sure if that matters> and
have you tried opening outlook going File --> Import and Export?
