why cant microsoft not protect xp

after a fresh clean new instalation of the OS xp you get
in the lower right a nice little pop up with your pc
might be at risk for security reasons
so i thought i download microsoft antispyware beta but it
seems it does not protect the pc you have to get
something out of the list Why is my question

why is it that i need to instal an secondary virus scanner
i find microsoft antispyware beta Good innuf as it is now
when i new virus comes in nice Big red pop up then poof
gone no free version as in yes the virus scanner says its
there but does it get removed?

is this going to get fixed or do i need to have a
secondary virus scanner on my pc

Actually, I would be thankful for that pop message. Most commercial
operating systems do not come with AntVirus utilities, so there is nothing
strange about getting an AntiVirus program for XP, they are even free ones.
