MSN Antispyware vs Microsoft Antispyware

Please note the distinction between the use of the terms "MSN" Antispyware
and "Microsoft" Antispyware in the following question..

When I dial up MSN Explorer, the Connection Center interrupts the dial up
process with the message "MSN Antispyware program is not installed." However
the Microsoft Antispyware icon in the notification area indicates that IT is
active.

Sometime ago I installed and began using Microsoft's version of the WebRoot
antispyware program. Recently I installed and began using the beta of the new
Microsoft antispyware program. After I was satisfied with it I uninstalled
the WebRoot version. It was then thet I started receiving the error message.

How do I get rid of it?

I think that I understand your question, but I don't have any idea what the
correct answer is for it.

I think you need an MSN support forum.

I don't have a very positive feeling about this, but :

http://support.msn.com/contactus.aspx

is where I'd start, I think. In my experience, going for email support has
worked best, and it may take you more than one exchange just to get someone
to actually understand your question.

I'm also an MSN subscriber, but I don't use their ISP services, and I've
never installed their antispyware software, I'm afraid.

Several months ago Microsoft bought a company that publishes an antispyware
program. It is called "Webroot Spy Sweeper." Microsoft then offered its own
version of that product as a free download to Microsoft ISP subscribers. At
the same time they announced that a successor product would be offered. I
assume that this newly released beta version of the Microsoft anti spyware
program fulfills that purpose..

In a previous posting I sought the advisability of uninstalling Webroot
once MS's product was satisfactorily installed. I was advised that it was
advisable to do so.

Ernie - I believe you may be mixing apples and oranges here.

Microsoft purchased Giant Software, one of whose products was Giant
Antispyware, about a year ago. Microsoft Antispyware (which will be renamed
Windows Defender when it reaches beta2) is the product related to that
purchase.

As far as I know, Webroot is a completely independent company, and MSN's
offering of its product is independent of the Microsoft Antispyware product.
(I should be clear--I'm not aware of MSN making this offer, but it doesn't
sound unlikely to me, so I'm going by your information about the offer.)

This forum is a support forum for Microsoft Antispyware, which isn't related
to Webroot SpySweeper in any way, I'm afraid. That's why we are unlikely to
be able to answer your question unless it happens that another MSN user here
has had a similar experience and resolved it.
