why cant I see pagefile.sys?

Hi

I have an error most times I log on. Searching the net, it seems like I
need to set the system to 'no paging file' then delete pagefile.sys. The
problem is that I cant see pagefile.sys! I have tried setting my folder
options to view hidden and system files but non are shown. If I do a dir /ah
c: then I can see it, but cant do anything with it. Searching for it doesn't
work either.

Most advice on the net (including t he link below) says I should be able to
delete the pagefile.sys after selecting 'no paging file' and the folder
option to show system files.

I am running XP pro. without the sevice packs.

Any ideas?

Have you tried to delete it from a command prompt?
Try the following (assuming you've selected "no page file", and re-booted):
start a command session and type attrib c:\pagefile.sys
The reply should look something like this:
A SH C:pagefile.sys
If so, remove the system and hidden attributes by typing attrib -h -s
c:\pagefile.sys
then delete it with del c:\pagefile.sys

Did you also untick, "Hide protected operating system files" under Tools
| Folder Options | View ?

Excellent!!!

Thank you :)

I had tried the command prompt, but hadn't used the attrib to change the
properties..

Thanks again :)
