Why are so many of my outgoing messages being returned as spam?

At least half of the messages I try to send from Outlook come back as
Undeliverable with a note indicating that they have received spam points.
These can be very simple text messages to friends. They don't look like spam
to me. If I send the same messages via gmail, they all get delivered with no
problem. I don't understand why this is happening or how to fix it.

It is a problem for the recipients of your email to correct, not you. Some may be using an overly aggressive spam filter, other recipients' ISPs may be using RBLs that are overly discriminating or something else. Can you contact the users (using Yahoo mail or Hotmail, or perhaps gmail) from whom you are receiving bounces to see if they have recently upgraded or updated their spam protection?

I appreciate your reply. I don''t understand, though, how it can be a
rpoblem with the recipients or the ISP. As I mentioned, if I send the same
message via Gmail to the same recipient using the same ISP, it goes through
every time. One thing I did not mention is that my incoming Outlook email is
routed from a website that is managed by an outfit in the UK. I don't know
whether the outgoing email goes through their server as well, but I imagine
it does. I've told them about this problem, but they deny vigorously that
the problem derives from their end. They say there is something wrong with
the way my Outlook is configured.

Your ISP's smtp server is obviously on a blacklist somewhere. Check
http://spamcop.net/bl.shtml

Your options are:

1. Move ISP
2. Wait, you might get removed from the blacklist if the spam stops
2. If you have a Gmail account then send your email via them. You can find
instructions on the Gmail site for setting up Outlook to use Gmail
