Whistling noise on audio

When using Voice and Video Communication I am getting a
loud whistle over my speakers. I am using Windows XP
Messenger on a broadband connection, with Logitec web
camera and mike. Video pictures OK. Sound OK when using
Logitech Image Studio. Do I need to turn off any
background programs while I am using Messenger in order
to get noise free reception? I have tried different
speaker and mike settings.

Sounds on the face of it like you're getting feedback between the microphone
and speakers. Does the whistling stop if you mute the microphone or turn
down the speaker volume?
Try moving the microphone further away from your speakers.
