|| Where to get SATA controller drivers? ||

I am building a new system using one SATA HD.

Where do I get the proper drivers to install when XP asks for RAID
drivers?

Do I get the driver(s) at the Motherboard site? Or do I look at the
Intel page since the controllers are Intel? The reason I ask is that I
have been both places and had no success. There was no disk included
with the HD.

This is like looking for a needle in a haystack!

Thank you all in advance!

Motherboard Manufacturer site.

What is the make and model of your mobo?

It's a Microstar MS 6728 2.00

There was a CD with the board but it has no SATA drivers on it.

So far no joy on their site :(

Thanks,

Tom

The floppy should have come with the motherboard if the mobo has the SATA
ports; or else with the controller card.

I wish it were that easy, there is no disk in the box with the HD and
the MB disc doesn't have the driver on it. The controller is on the
MB.

Thanks!

One of the 915 Neo2's? If so choose your specific version from the ones
listed at the link below, then download you SATA Raid driver.

Hi Tom
I have 2 computers with SATA drives.
If you aren't setting up a Raid set, go in the bios and turn off raid setup
and it won't ask for drivers.
On my boards i don't need special drivers just to use a SATA hard drive.

This is for the F6 floppy disk for the 875 chipset. Of course you
will have to dig around for your chipset. Also you state that you
are building a new system. Dig around in the Mainboar box to see
if this F6 floppy is in there. One came with my Mainboard (intel)/
good luck

Go into your CMOS setup program and see if SATA can be enabled from
there. Most modern motherboards that sport a built in SATA controller
have a way to enable it through the BIOS. Once done there, you won't
have to worry about loading drivers when installing XP.

Hi Carl,

There is no mention of RAID in the BIOS even though it has been
flashed to allow the use of drives larger than 137 GB.

I was told that when the XP setup asks for the RAID controller
drivers, that's the time to insert a floppy with the driver for the
onboard controller, that's the reason I make reference to RAID.

The drive is an SATA but it seems to be invisible, without those
drivers.......... the hunt goes on!!

Thank you to all who replied thus far!

You only install the raid drivers if you want to setup a raid set. Other
wise just ignore the message on the first setup window.
I have run both on my pc and if i want to setup a raid set i click F6 on the
first screen. If i don't want raid set i just ignore and let windows install
normally.
I have a Intell 865PE and a DFI 865PE board and don't have to install
seperate drivers just to use SATA only.
Check the Bios, for special setting for diplaying the hard drive lineup.
Hope this helps.

P.S. Maybe I should test them for you also. Learn to do your owm research.
Found in under 15 seconds.

It may surprise you to know that I was already at that page, but when
I was there none of the downloads were available. I arrived there
using my 'own research'.

Anyone as sanctimonious as you should be able to spell a three letter
word without aid from the F-7 key.

No need to test them for me, I'm sure you are busy with far more
important things; like creating new planets and species to inhabit
them.

The downloads seem to be working for me, and your PIDE/SATA download is
among those listed there.

Hi kurttrail,

Sadly I have tried both of them, and XP refuses to see the drive.

I have tried another SATA cable and power cable but neither made a
difference.

Using a driver from the Intel site failed as well.

I'm wondering if this is going to ever work :(

Thank you all for your interest and help!

I have been looking at the AMI BIOS, there are no selections to choose
an SATA drive, all the drive choices are IDE. So even though I flashed
the BIOS, it still doesn't have a choice for SATA. I think that is the
root of my trouble. How MSI can say the MB supports SATA is beyond me.
There's more to "support" than putting a connector on the MB!

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Tom
Not to be a smart alec, but did you read the PDF manual on the CD?(should be
one)
It tells how to set bios for the SATA drive configuration.
Hope this helps.

Hi Karl,

Yes I have the owner's manual here in my hand, there is a nice
description of how to set the BIOS for SATA, but below the picture of
the screen is the disclaimer " The options showed for your BIOS may be
different depending on what motherboard you buy."

Nice of them to tell me how to do it and give me a BIOS that doesn't
show any of the options they call for! This is after a " Live Update"
BIOS Flash right from AMI. This was one of the reasons I bought the
board last year, I thought I could upgrade it at some point.

I guess I am screwed as I see no way to correct the problem other than
sending the drive back and keep on using the IDE drive I have now.

Thanks for your help!! :)

Hi Tom
I would read the PDF manual on the motherboard CD.
I have noticed the paper manual and thePDF don't say exactly the same thing.
Give it a try.
Hope this helps you out.
