I recently purchased a dell laptop with windows xp home and I am trying to
make a back up but when I go to the System Tools the option is not there.
Where can I find the backup option?

With home retail cd,install xp cd,browse the cd,tools, hover the icons you'll
see "backup".W/o a retail version of xp,youre best bet is to run the file
transfer
wizard, set as old computer, select files, folders, settings you want it to
save,save
the data to a new folder you create, once the data is complete, move the folder
to a cd.This is considered a better "backup" than the backup utility.

To manually install Backup:
Double-click the Ntbackup.msi file in the following location on the Windows XP Home
Edition CD-ROM to start a wizard that installs Backup:
CD-ROM Drive:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP
When the wizard is complete, click Finish.

If you don't have an XP CD, you can download ntbackup.msi at:
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/ntbackup.msi
*** You may have to hold your Shift key down when clicking on above to save the file
to disk. Note that OEM PC makers dont have to provide all the utils on their custom
XP cds.

If you can’t get the backup utility to recognise your CD-RW see this link for a Work
