I have approx. 900 cd's in Windows Media Player, that I want to transfer to
itunes, so I can download the music to my ipod. I don't know how to locate
the files, co I can import them into itunes. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

They should be in MyMusic folder - search for it; othervises, search for
"*.wma " (no quotes) or whatever format your music is in Search.

Hi, I just logged in because I have a similiar issue. I set up and recorded
Music in the Media Center. I bought an Ipod Nano and set up the account w/
Itunes and it actually prompted me and stated that the software found music
files and asked me if I wanted to tranfer them to the Itunes library. Prior
to this it asked me if I wanted to have the Itunes library as the default
Library and I answered yes. My Dell Windows XP Diminsion E510 Desktop was
able to transfer in the music no problem.
The music was then located in both the Itunes Library and the Media Center
Library.

The reason why I am responding to you is to avoid what happened to me. I let
my wife use the computer and I have set up two separate profiles. We both
have IPods and Itune Libraries. If you or anyone ever gets the message "The
Ipod "YourNameIpod" is linked to another Itunes Music Library. Do you want to
link to this Itunes Music Library and replace all existing songs and
playlists on this Ipod with those from this Library? Do not say yes. The
Apple support guy instructed me to say yes on this and not only was my Ipod
and my Itunes Library wiped clean but my Media Center Music Library was wiped
with all the music I loaded in. Bummer...Right now I am trying to see if I
can find the music in my computer. Just be careful. Hope this helps. Mike

You are confusing the playlists in media players with the physical music
files. By default music is stored in "My Music". Songs in media players are
pointers to these files. You can delete the playlists in all the media
players and still have the music in "My Music". The only thing that is
required is that when you delete music in the media player you must respond
to delete library entry only, not the actual physical music. Music can be
reentered into the media players by telling them to scan the actual music
library.

The other lesson to learn is to HAVE AN OFFLINE BACKUP. Media files are
destroyed just as easily as text documents and photos.
