It is a waste of time to attempt to solve Windows Mail problems
without first uninstalling McAfee. It will mask and distort other issues.
Disabling it is not sufficient.

I've had this problem for about a month now but can add information. I
have
Vista Home Premium (32bit) with McAfee installed by Dell. First few
months,
no problem. Now almost daily I have to reboot to resolve. Based on above
posts, I contacted McAfee technical support and they recommended when it
next
occurs, stop McAfee by going into "services.msc/McAfee Redirector Service"
and electing to "stop" McAfee, then try replying to an e-mail. They
claimed
if it did not then solve the problem it is not a McAfee problem. I tried
it
this morning and it did not solve the problem. This leads me back to
believing the problem is in Windows Mail.

By the way, when I get this problem, no pop-up window works in Windows
Mail
(like "print" or "properties"; it is not just "reply"). Also, strangely
enough, while attending to my in-box I can tell when it is about to occur
because when I use "shift-delete" to permanently discard an e-mail, the
little warning box doesn't pop up and the mail is permanently deleted.
Minutes later, the "reply" window will come up blank.

They are wrong.McAfee needs to be totally uninstalled.

I too have this problem (several times a day). It's as if Windows Mail runs
out of memory or something, 'cos after a while I can't save or reply or open
attachments etc. I can recover from this by closing and re-opening Windows
Mail. I DON'T have McAfee!

C'mon Microsoft. Up till now I've been singing Vista's praises!

AVG should be compatible, providing you installed it with the custom
install option which omits the mail checking module. If you did not
install AVG that way, uninstall and try again.
If no improvement, upgrade to Windows Live Mail:

Thanks. I have followed this advice, and (so far!) it seems to have done the
trick.

BTW - isn't Windows Live Mail still in beta?

Yes, WLM is still in beta, but is at least as stable as WM,
and has more features.

Sounds like your WM is failing again. Time to upgrade to WM.
