*What* triggers the dial-up on my ICS?

Hi group,

I have just set up ICS between two machines running W2K pro.
Here at home I have an ISDN connection with a charge per
time unit.

I do of course want to trigger a connection from any of the
computers without needing to fiddle with the other one.
Obviously I do no not want any software connecting to the
net withut me having OK´d it.

As soon as I start the "other" computer something there
makes the master one dial up.

How can I find out what that something is?

I have shut down the lap top antivirus proggie to no avail.

Automatic dial is not really an option these days, because
so many programs check automatically for updates, not just
virus scanners. Windows Automatic Update is one of them.

If you really want to find out, run a network sniffer. I recommend
Ethereal - it's free.

It was peobably ZoneAlarm that triggered the dial-up. I
disabled ZA on the notebook and just have it running on the
master computer.
Now the nuisance dial-ups seems to be gone.

Thank you for your input.
