What is mrtRate?

It seems I have a service that is unable to start up. I don't know what it
is, but I did find a mention about Quicken. The registry shows it as a
legacy driver. Anybody know for sure, and what to do about the error
message?

The mrtRate service failed to start due to the following error:

The system cannot find the file specified.

a program that installed it might have unistalled the driver, has the computer been acting any different as to when it was still working besides the error message.
if not just disable it by right clicking my computer, manage, services and apps, services, find the service right click it, properties, set start up type to manual or disabled

Thanks, but I checked those messages and nothing seems to fit. It is
happening on a new laptop and Quicken 2000 was never on it. 2004 is on it
now, msinfo32 says it is a system service, but computer management does not
list it as a service. A little strange!

My computer shows it as being in the systems32\drivers folder. It states it
is a Rate Sensing DLL copyright Marimba, Inc., and it is starting on my
desktop. The file is not on my laptop. I wanted to know, just in case it
was some kind of virus. Norton doesn't see it.

I guess I could put this file on my laptop, but if the new Dell didn't come
with it, why is it being started? Where is it being started (not in
registry or Win.ini or system.ini)?

Sorry, the file does show up in the registry as a Legacy driver. Some times
it is mentioned with Quicken and sometime it seems to be related with
Dial-up.

If I knew for sure what it was, I could remove it from the registry or add
it to my laptop.

I think I found out what it is. It seems it is a Quicken background
download manager. There were some posts about computers not going into
standby because of it. It should be listed in Device Manager under show
hidden devices under non-PnP Drivers.

Even knowing this, it doesn't explain why it is trying to start without the
driver being present. But it appears I can disable it without problems.
