I was running FileMon and noticed tha the "System: 4" app
accessed "C:\$BitMap". So I tried to use google to search
for "C:\$BitMap" but to no avail. (kept returning "c
bitmap") So then I tried microsoft knoledge base search
and still came up with nothing.

So then I opened up the command line and navigated
to "C:\>" then tried this "cd $BitMap". It returned the
responce "Access is denied.". I have tried to do "cd
$BitMap" in other folder s like the "C:\Program Files\"
folder for example but I only get the message that that
folder does not exist etc. The folder only seems to be
located under the root folder of a drive. But again I can
gain access to it.

I know that "C:\$Mft" referes to the master file table.
So what is "C:\$BitMap"?

I am trying to figure out just what is the "C:\$BitMap"
folder for, what is contained in it. And why do I get
a "Access is denied" message every time I try to open it,
even though I am the only only one who uses this computer
and I have administrator privliges etc.

Forget about it,. it is one of a number of hidden directories that NT (XP)
uses.
