What is an easy to use midi program for scoring/playing?

Well, for scoring, your choices are: Sibelius, Finale and a new one called
Notion, if you want professional quality notation. If you just need basic
notation for editing, Sonar is not too bad.

About a month ago it was pretty much agreed in this thread that Sibelius
and Finale would probably be overkill for the purposes of the original
poster - and Notion at US$600 seems so, too. As for Sonar's notation
capabilities, IMHO there are less expensive programs around which do
much better. Sonar's main strength seems to be audio/MIDI production.

It was also pointed out that there are a fair number of less expensive
or even free programs which would be suitable; finally, a number of
contributors suggested that good old practice might be the best method
for the OP to learn song segments.

Years ago I was a beta tester for Encore by Passport, one of the
original companies involved in MIDI during the early-mid eighties.

G-VOX ended up with the rights to Encore and I think it's been updated
to at least run under XP. It may be very inexpensive.
