What extension to save scanned picture to Powerpoint 97?

I'm scanning a picture from my printer and I'm trying to bring it into
PowerPoint 97, but it doesn't recognize any of the file extenions I'm using.
What do I have to do?

What was the original file format scanned? PowerPoint works well with .jpeg
and .png, I tend to stick to those. .jpg for anything that doesn't require
transparency, .png for images that need transparency.

I ask what the original scan format is because if you are just changing the
extension then you have not changed the picture format. You can't name a
picture.TIFF as a picture.PNG and expect PowerPoint to be happy. You will
need something like Photoshop to re-save the picture for you and change the
compression format.

Hope this helps!

and I don't remember if PPT97 played nice with .PNG, so I would stick to
..JPG/.JPEG if you can!

What extensions do you have available from the scanning software?

And if you go into PPT 97 and choose Insert, Picture, From File, what extensions
does it show you as possibilities (it may vary depending on the filters you've
installed, so I can't just tell you what I get here)?

Find an extension th appears on both and you should be good to go.
