What Does Work On Windows XP 64-bit Edition

I am getting an eMachine notebook with a 64-bit CPU, and I am looking
into XP 64-bit. I have the CD and am wondering what does work and if
there are anny apps that can be gotten that are 64-bit as well.

I am thinking that I could get software like OpenOffice in source and
compile it in 64-bit. Does Mocrosoft offer any 64-bit software to go
along with the OS? Are there any programs to get beta versions of their
compilers or software in 64-bit?

Windows XP is no longer in Beta.
If you wish to post about the x64 versions of Windows please follow the
instructions at

(Yes this is for Window XP Professional x64 Edition.)

Please also realize that there are certain facts that you accept when
testing a pre-release version
of an operating system such as lack of support for your hardware (drivers),
application incompatibilities and potential instabilities that could lead to
a complete loss of all data as well as having to rebuild your test machine
from scratch.

If this is news to you (and given the questions you ask) then you may not be
ready to get involved with a pre release opertaing system and should wait
for the final production release.

I wouldn't expect any flood of 64 bit applications before 2006 or 2007 at
the very earliest.

I would not expect office 2003 to ever be 64 bit and i believe office 12 or
the next version after that will be 64 bit

norton will probably release all these tools for 64 bit next year or in
2006.
