Western Digital & Ultra100tx2 (UltraATA) Controller

J

Jonathan Lawrence

Recently bought a 250GB Western Digital and it came with
an Ultra100tx2 controller card. The drivers that came
with the card would not work so I had to get the latest
ones from Promise (the makes of the card). Everything
seemed to work okay but now I'm unable to delete anything
from the 250GB drive and if Windows tries to run a
scandisk after a bad shutdown it will truncate and just
wipe out alot of valid files saying they are invalid.
Western Digital has told me this is a problem with
Windows and I should contact Microsoft. However this
seems to be my only support option. Can someone please
help!?

Yes sir. Running the newest bios and the newest drivers
that promise offers. Ever since my PC locking up the
other day and me just shutting down I'm not getting the
scandisk at startup but I will not allow windows to do
it. The last time it ran on the new drive running off
the controller card it truncated alot of files and let me
with a 32k file in it's place.

Any other ideas?

Acording to installation manual for WD drives, certain disk utiliies such as Scandisk or Defrag may not operate correctly on partitions greater than 137 GB. They recommend creating multiple partitions of less than 137 GB to overcome this problem.

No luck their either. Can we discuss this via email? It
would be easier to follow and I could explain it all and
perhaps send screen shots of the errors if need be. You
are my last hope.

Thank you. Although this still wouldn't account for the
inability to delete exsisting files and directories on
the drive.

Please learn how to use the Caps Lock key!!!! Over-using the Caps Lock key
is considered to be shouting at others!!!!!!

Also, please be aware that most hard drive diagnostic program may only work
with the motherboard IDE port and not any third party add-on like the Ultra
100TX2 card.

IF THIS IS A WD HDD. TRY USING THE WD DLG DIAG TO CHECK THE HDD FOR
ERRORS. THIS WOULD CHECK THE PHYSICAL INTERGRITY OF THE HDD. ALSO TRY
WRITING ZEROS AND REPARTITIONING AND FORMATTING THE HDD TO ENSURE THAT YOU
HAVE STABLE PARTITIION STRUCTURE. THIS WOULD DELETE YOUR DATA. SO BACK IT
UP.
