WEP key entry

I have a notebook computer with a built-in ORiNOCO Mini
PCI Card. It works correctly with Netgear WGR614 AP
without WEP encryption. Can someone tell me how to enter
WEP keys, key format and key size.

Thanks,

Ray

You don't say what kind of notebook ... surely there is a program
available via "Start" or "Control Panel" which provides access to
control for Wireless Lan. Also look in the laptop's User Guide.

My notebook computer is Sony SRX7. There is no setup
program in the computer and in the user manual.
Obviously Windows XP has incorporated all the settings
but does not explain the detail how to enter into space
provided, i.e., how to identify hexi code or ASCII code
and key size: 64-bit or 128-bit. Therefore I need to
know the Windows XP setup for wireless card.

Thanks,

Ray

he key length determine the encryption strength. MS wanted to simplify
it and "just make it work" in SP1

1 ASCII Character=8 Bits

1 HEX Character=4 Bits

40 or 64 bit ASCII WEP code has 5 characters

40 or 64 bit HEX WEP code has 10 characters

104 or 128 bit ASCII WEP code has 13 characters

104 or 128 bit HEX WEP code has 26 characters

so to enable 128 bit WEP, enter 26 characters comprise of the letters
a-f and numbers 0-9
