Spent this last weekend rebuilding a PC (Pentium-4 1.7GHz, 512M RAM, Windows
XP SP2 with all latest critical updates). Once it was all setup, I took it
back to the client site and set it up there, but had a bunch of random
freezes. I think I traced it down to a bad USB device -- the jury is still
out -- but this is sort of beside the point. Weird thing is, after one of
these lockups, I rebooted and instead of getting the "welcome" screen, I get
the standard logon. If I go into the user settings and check, the "use
welcome screen" option is selected, but it doesn't matter. I've tried
turning it off, then rebooting, then turning it on again and rebooting, but
I can't get it back. It's not a big deal -- more of a cosmetic glitch than
real problem, because there's only one user that logs in to this station --
but I kind of liked the way the old welcome screen looked and would like to
get it back. Anyone know why this happened and if there's anything I can do
to fix it?
Thanks!
