I just had my system become unbootable.
This is what I did this evening
I installed a DVD Burner with Roxio software and a CD Burner/DVD reader with
Nero software
It installed fine but when it rebooted I received the yellow caution icon in
the bottom right on the screen telling me to run CHKDSK
I did and it found some errors and some duplicate serial numbers of the hard
drives it fixed this and the computer booted fine.
I then went to burn a DVD and it could not find the DVD drive?
I used the other burner and burned a CD instead.
I then went to reinstall the Roxio software figuring maybe the Nero software
had a conflict with the Roxio.
I reinstalled and now the system will not boot at all. It seems the MBR for
the C drive is corrupt. I am not sure if FIX MBR is my only option.
I am planning on taking the drive out and putting it into my spare computer
as a slave drive to see what I can see.
I really don't want to reinstall XP
Is there a downside to trying FIX MBR?
Right now the C drive is not accessible
XP does try to start and I get the Windows did not start properly before do
you want to start in safe mode etc..
Whatever I pick it just reboots unless I choose the recovery console?
Any options as to what to try when I pop the drive into the other PC I am
hoping I can get the files off at least but not sure.
I do have winternals software so hopefully I can use that to get my files
off the drive!
